Quality
Measurement Systems Analysis built into your MES
SPC data is only as credible as the gauge that produced it. IATF 16949 §7.1.5.1.1 requires MSA for every gauge in the control plan. Qontiv makes Gauge R&R, calibration tracking, and gauge management part of the same system as your quality data — not a separate spreadsheet.
AIAG MSA 4th edition acceptance criteria
Every Gauge R&R study is automatically evaluated against AIAG acceptance thresholds:
- Accepted — %GRR < 10%
- Conditional — 10% ≤ %GRR ≤ 30%
- Rejected — %GRR > 30%
Studies with fewer than 5 distinct categories (NDC) are flagged as conditionally accepted at best, per the AIAG manual's discrimination criterion. Results are linked to the gauge master record and surfaced in gauge status views.
MSA study types
Qontiv supports the full AIAG study portfolio:
- Gauge R&R (Crossed) — each operator measures each part; standard for attribute and variable gauges
- Gauge R&R (Nested) — each part measured by only one operator; for destructive tests
- Bias — systematic offset of the measurement system from the reference value
- Linearity — bias variation across the operating range of the gauge
- Stability — gauge variation over time at a fixed reference value
Gauge master records
Every physical gauge has a master record: gauge type, manufacturer, model, serial number, accuracy class, measurement type, and site/fixture assignment. Gauge records are the linking point for calibration certificates and MSA studies.
Calibration certificate tracking
Calibration certificates are append-only and immutable — each certificate records the
certifying lab (Internal / External Vendor), calibration values, expiry date, and
NIST/ISO 17025 traceability chain. The gauge master updates automatically with
NextCalibrationDue after each certificate is recorded.
Gauge status management
Gauge status flows through four states:
- Active — in-service and within calibration
- AwaitingCalibration — calibration due or overdue
- Quarantined — removed from service, pending investigation or recalibration
- Retired — permanently removed from service
Quarantine status blocks the gauge from being selected in new work instruction steps, preventing suspect measurements from entering production records.
